Big Sandy Accountability April Meeting

The meeting was called to order.

Board Report-Facilities repairs continues to move along with the major roofing project this summer, staff members will be issued contracts for the 2016-17 school year, legislation updates include: an increase of about 100 dollars per pupil for funding, but with the averaging for our district we will see a very small increase in State funds, no additional rural school money, the hospital provider fee is proceeding through the house and senate which would reduce the amount of money that would be counted against the Tabor Amendment and in addition to that, a proposal to have a Tabor time out for 10 years is being presented, and Mrs. Hankins was hired as the Superintendent Secretary.

Elementary-Reading with the Principal was completed, class schedules and splits are being determined, year-end benchmark testing will be taking place this month and next, year-end field trips are being scheduled, Field Day is Friday, May 13th, Elementary Awards assembly is Thursday, May 19th, and the Summer Activity Calendar is ready to go.

Secondary-Prom is April 30th, ACT and PSAT testing is next week, the schedule is being developed for next year, the Athletic Banquet is May 16th, the Academic Awards is May 26th, we are working on year end awards and programs, and the Senior Trip is set and they are going to California.

Kid’s Korner-State FBLA is this week, Stucco Activities included Dancing with the Stars, (The teachers really won the competition), a secondary music club is being started with 38 students attending the first meeting, SADD is planning a MADD assembly as well as serving as volunteers for the 9 Health Fair on May 7th, and True Sports went to the headquarters for an FBLA presentation as well as planning for next year.

Key Communicators-The Simla Library is hosting Library Week and offering a professional development opportunity for teachers in the county, Cross Roads is having its 20th year anniversary celebration this week and they are wrapping up after school activities next month as well as preparing for summer camps, baseball sign up is this month, elementary soccer just started with 75 kids participating, the Girl Scout Father/Daughter dance and banquet will be May 7th, last week was County Clean Up, and

the Booster Club is preparing for After Prom and scholarship review.

Title I-We received our funding notification for next year.  The amount is $75,000, this is a decrease of about $11,000 again this year.  We continue to receive less money each year.

Vocational-Industrial Arts Fair is in May.  FBLA has 11 members who are going to State this week.  Mr. Wilson is working with Mr. Tucker on purchasing computers to place in the vocational business program.

Preschool-Round Up is April 15th with 7 students signed up.  Mrs. Jones presented the Annual Report and shared parent comments.  In addition, she presented the Legislative Report.  Our Colorado Dept. of Education Early Childhood Representative visited our school this week and was very impressed with our program, great job Mrs. Jones and Mrs. George!  Next year we will be looking at implementing another program, Colorado Shines, which is another assessment.

Safety Update-The new AED has been installed in the elementary hallway.  We received this through a grant Mr. Wilson wrote.  Mr. Wilson gave an update on the Emergency Operation Plan.  This will be posted on the website when the team has the last review.

Unified Improvement Plan-Mr. Wilson presented the Unified Improvement Plan to the Committee and it will be sent to CDE.   CDE will post it on the website.  Next year we will have new data to evaluate student growth and instructional performance.  MAPPS testing is being evaluated for implementation next year to provide another standardized measurement.   We have been in the Performance Category as a district, every year on the School Performance Report.

Year End Report-Mr. Mitchell presented the report to the Committee for approval. It was approved and will be submitted to the Board of Education on April 20th for their formal acceptance along with Charges for 2016-2017.

Membership 2016-17-All members who are not graduating seniors or retiring elementary principals will return with the addition of a new principal, a freshman, and the new head boy and girl, as well as anyone else who would like to be on the Committee.
