Call to Order

Board Report-We completed first and second reading on a number of policies, the financial outlook for next year is somewhat positive, the legislation continues to work on an assessment bill, the district ending budget for 2014-15 continues to improve, certified and classified staff were approved for rehiring, and the district has completed a reimbursement form for the BEST grant based on money we have spent on capital construction activities.

 

Elementary-Math Olympics was a success, students  read with the principal yesterday and today, Easter Parties were great, Kindergarten Round Up is this Friday, the Spring Concert is May 5th,  Field Day is Friday, May 8th, Elementary Awards are Thursday, May 14th, elementary field trips will be the last 2 weeks of school, class assignments are being developed with 4th and 5th grade having Mrs. Mitchell, Mrs. Ashmore, and Mrs. Duffy teach both grades certain subjects, our summer school list is being formalized, and  we have continued to gain students.

 

Secondary-Prom went well, ACT testing is April 28th for all Juniors, baseball and track are in full swing, the senior trip is set, there will be jr. high field trips in May going to the Denver Museum of Natural History, the Athletic banquet is May 11th, the Academic Awards is May 21st, and graduation may be changed due to State Baseball.  Mrs. Swennes is talking to senior parents about the possible change.

 

Kid’s Korner-State FBLA is next week with 26 qualifiers, Stucco activities are being planned, Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up and the various student groups are planning activities for that week, and the mock roll over is April 30th.

 

Key Communicators-Simla Baseball Summer Rec program sign up is complete with 4 different levels of teams, thank you Mr. Kochera for taking the commissioners role, Crossroads is hosting adventure camp and a garage sale, and the Simla Library will have the have a heroes theme for the summer reading program.

 

Preschool-Round up for 2015-16 is Friday, April 24th, the final report is for the Colo. Preschool Project is Friday, April 24th, May 15th is the date for the last down load, and we have gained one student.

 

Title I-We will receive $11,000 dollars less this coming year.  The amount of money we receive is based on a number of factors that include information from the census, free and reduced lunch applicants, and the area poverty level.  We are a school wide program which means we use the funding to reduce class sizes for more individual attention.

 

Performance Evaluation-Final evaluations will take place this next month when assessment information is completed for students.

 

Safety-A fire drill was held and we will stay have one more shelter in place drill this year.  SADD is sponsoring an assembly concerning safe driving for our high school students with a mock roll over.  40 staff members completed CPR, First Aid, and AED training this past Monday.   Rick Kolms from Kiowa will be offering drivers education this summer.

 

Facilities-Our final 2 year warranty walk through will be in May.  We are having some more cement being poured by the track.  The gym floors will be sanded and sealed this summer again.

 

Nutritional-Summer training sessions are set for staff, and Miami Yoder had 9 members and employees visit our kitchen staff and ask how we have a successful program so they could improve their program.

 

PARCC-CMAS Testing-We completed the first round of PARCC testing in March.  A special thank you to Mr. Thieman and Mr. Tucker for making sure our technology was up and running.  We would also thank Irene and her kitchen staff for the great breakfasts that were served.  CMAS training is next-Science and Social Studies for certain grades and then the first of May we will finish the second round of PARCC testing.

 

Year End Report-The Year End Report was submitted to the Board of Education for acceptance at the April 15th, 2015 meeting.  Charges for 2015-16 were approved and the membership roster for 2015-16 will be presented in August to the Board of Education for approval.

 

Membership 2015-16- Thank you Bronwyn Duffy and Kyler Hamacher for your service this year and good luck at college.  I would also like to thank all of the returning and new members for next year’s committee.
