Oct. 10, 2017 @ 3:00 p.m. in the board room

Cole called the meeting to order. Eleven members were present.

Board Report- Mr. Wilson stated that it was National Principal’s Month.  Thanks to Mrs. Swennes and Mrs. Tucker.  Our funded count is up by approximately 15 students for October.

UIP-Our last report was April two years ago.  Ceiling tiles were replaced last week, and the ceilings look really good.  Hopefully, everything else will be completed in October.  Excel will be donating money for the purchase of 3 buses, a skidsteer with attachments, and possible other school vehicles.  They are donating for safety and/or snow removal.  Some lights are out around the school’s campus and on the athletic fields, and we are currently receiving bids to replace these.  A letter has been sent to a philanthropist to see if he would like to partner with our district to fund new programs or the construction of a new building.  The Spanish teacher job has been offered to an individual to begin teaching in January.  We haven’t heard received word from him yet.  Steve discussed the changes that are occurring in PERA.  Thank you to those who helped with Homecoming-Chad Thieman and Sammi.  They really did a lot of work during that week.  Our school may be hosting the district and regional volleyball tournaments.

Elementary-Tomorrow night, the elementary will be hosting a Family Literacy Night in conjunction with our Book Fair.  Teachers will be hosting various sessions where students will be making a craft, playing musical instruments, creating an invention, solving mysteries, or learning reading strategies.  Pizza and a puppet show will be available in the cafeteria, and families are also able to shop the book fair.  Cogat screening will take place in 2nd and 6th grades.  Students who are identified will be placed in the gifted and talented program.  On Tuesdays, a new mental health counselor will be coming to our school to help in various ways.  She will be teaching a curriculum to jr. high students that will help them to cope with adversity and learn various decision making strategies.  In the elementary, she will counsel students one on one to help them with various problems and/or teach them coping techniques as well. End of first quarter will be this Friday, and elementary parent/teacher conferences will be on Monday, Oct. 16th from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fire Prevention will be on Oct. 20th for prek-5th grades.

Secondary-JH incentive trip is coming up, and students have to meet certain criteria to be eligible for the trip.  Senior retreat will be next Wednesday, and they will be eating out and going to Dart Wars.  Mr. Thieman will arrange a speaker to come and speak to the students.  Homecoming was good and went very well.  End of first quarter is on Friday.  FBLA inductions are on the evening of October 18th.  Parent/teacher conferences were on Sept. 18th.

Kids’ Korner-Junior High sports is wrapping up.  Post season is in a few weeks.  High school Matchwits is going well.  Our team is in the top six.  Matchwits also participated in the Rocky Mountain PBS competition.  Elementary matchwits will have their meet here on October 23rd.  Elementary coaches are having a volleyball camp and a football camp on Wednesday nights.

Safety Update-Shelter in Place drill on Oct. 3rd.  We are changing our school safety protocol to “I Love You Guys” foundation.  The purpose is to be consistent with the terminology in the county and state.  Mrs. Swennes did a great job of making our school “allergy aware.”
