Dear Big Sandy Elementary Families,
It’s hard to believe, but once again, the beginning of school is upon us! I hope this summer has been wonderful for you all, filled with quality time together, laughter, and cherished memories. As we look forward to a new school year, I want to extend a heartfelt welcome to the 2024/25 school year!
Classes start on August 15, 2024
Classes at Big Sandy Elementary will officially begin on Thursday, August 15, 2024.
To ensure a smooth start, we will have back-to-school testing for returning students on Tuesday, August 13th, and for new students on Wednesday, August 14th.
Our dedicated teachers will soon reach out to remind you of your child’s testing appointment and provide any additional back-to-school information. When you bring your child for testing, feel free to bring along any school supplies you may have.
Elementary Staff Changes
This summer, we’ve had a few changes to our staff that we’d like to share with you.
Mrs. Jones has moved on from our school, and while we will miss her greatly, we wish her all the best in her new endeavors. In her place, we are delighted to welcome Mrs. Creel, who will be teaching first grade alongside Mrs. Norris. Mrs. Creel will be in Mrs. Jones’ former classroom, and Mrs. Norris will be in Mrs. Lally’s previous special education room, as Mrs. Lally has transitioned to an adjacent special education room.
And…congratulations to Ms. Zimmerman (kindergarten teacher) who recently got married and is now Mrs. Hamacher.
In third grade, we’re excited to introduce Miss Lane, who will be joining our team. With her extensive experiences and expertise, she will be a fantastic addition to our school. Students originally assigned to Mrs. Creel will now be in Miss Lane’s class, while Mrs. Thieman will continue to teach the other third grade class.
We’re also thrilled to welcome Ms. Kayla Morris and Mrs. Stephanie Soto as new paraprofessionals to our exceptional staff.
For our preschool families, we have a new paraprofessional joining us, as Mrs. Hoops has taken on a new role as a K-12 counselor in training.
Preschool will begin on the same day as the elementary school and will follow the same schedule as last year.
We have a parent night scheduled for August 12, 2024 from 4-7 p.m., and please remember that all preschool students need to be independently toilet trained before starting school.
At Big Sandy Elementary, we remain committed to providing a high-quality education for all our students. We’re enthusiastic about the new changes and eagerly anticipate the year ahead.
