Good morning Simla Bear Cub families!
I am glad to announce that Mrs. Shannon Hoops has been hired by our school district using a 4-year School Counseling Corps Grant to help enhance and improve our K-12 School Counseling program.
The American School Counselor Association recommends that school counseling programs provide support to students in three domains: academic, career, and social/emotional development and I look forward to working with Mrs. Hoops as we strive to improve the effectiveness of our program.
Mrs. Hoops will be working under my direction as she begins her Master’s degree program in School Counseling.
One of her duties will be to serve as a student advocate for students in all grades being willing to meet with anyone who needs support and who would like to talk.
If your student is going to meet with Mrs. Hoops for this purpose, a Student Advocate Permission Form will be sent home to receive your consent.
If you consent to your student meeting with Mrs. Hoops, please return the form to the main office. It is okay for your student to bring the form back and give it to their teacher who will pass it on to the office.
As always, if you have questions or concerns, please email me or call me at 719-541-2291.
Wishing you well,
Chad R. Thieman, School Counselor
Meet Mrs. Shannon Hoops
Hi! My name is Shannon Hoops and I am going to be working as a Student Advocate/School Counseling Corps Grant (SCCG) Manager starting this year at Big Sandy Schools.
I have worked previously as a one-on- one para and also preschool para.
I have three girls that attend Simla and they are in 8th grade, 7th grade, and 2nd grade. I am excited to begin this new position as I go back to school to work on my Master’s degree in School Counseling.
I will be working in the classrooms to assist our amazing staff in teaching our students things like how to be a good friend to others, what our emotions look like plus some tools to use to help control our emotions, and how to act appropriately in the classroom to create the best learning environment possible.
I will be available to work one-on-one with students who need someone to talk to. But I will also be available to meet with groups that need a safe place to express themselves. All of these things will be overseen by Mr. Thieman.
I look forward to a great year working with your awesome kids. Go Bear Cubs!
