NHS is partnering with Blueridge Toy Drive to provide Christmas assistance for toys and gifts for children who have been affected by the devastation left behind by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina.

Blueridge Toy drive is partnering with the Asheville Buncombe County Christian Ministry to get toys distributed to the kids in need in that area. They are anticipating a need for over 2500 children this year.

Big Sandy School District 100J Chapter of the National Honor Society is organizing a school-wide drive. Toys and gifts are needed for all ages from babies to teenagers.

Toy Drive Dates

NHS will collect items from now until Monday, Dec. 16th .

Our chapter is organizing a competition between grades.

Competition by Grades:

The competition will be divided by age group:

  • Preschool through 5th grade
  • 6th through 8th grade
  • High School (9th through 12th grades).

Prizes:

  • The elementary class that collects the most will receive an ice cream party.
  • Middle School and High School will earn spirit points.

Uncertain what to Donate?

We are encouraging students to purchase gifts for their own age group (i.e. Kindergarteners should purchase items for 5 to 6 year olds). Students can pick out something that they would like (and parents verify if it is age appropriate).

However, it is OK to bring toys for any age group.
