Big Sandy Accountability Meeting
Tuesday, Nov. 10th Minutes
The meeting was called to order.
Board Report-The final audit has been completed, the new school board member is Nancy Sotomayor, we continue to work on the facilities, the PARCC test results were released to the State Board of Education today, (however we will not receive information until next week and it is embargoed until mid December. Once we receive individual student results we will send them home with report cards in early January.), the superintendents from around the State of Colorado composed their annual position paper to the legislators that focuses on funding and the negative factor, the Governor’s proposed 2016 budget shows an increase of 50 million dollars in the negative factor, FBLA is working on a school/community garden project, and the CDE 4 year audit is complete and Mr. Wilson just has one item he is questioning at this point.

Elementary-The majority of the elementary students completed Read Aloud Month, Math Month has started, a big thank you to parents for the Halloween Parties, the Book Fair was a success, (a special thank you to Mrs. Montague and crew), Writing Month is in January, and the elementary continues to review a math series.

Secondary-Fall sports have ended and winter sports will be starting, Matchwit continues, FBLA is preparing for Districts, NHS is preparing for the Annual Santa visit, and Stucco had activities for Halloween and will be preparing for Thanksgiving, Middle School Enrichment Day is Thursday, December 17th, the Senior Trip destination at this time is Los Angeles, and there is a Veteran’s Day Assembly tomorrow morning, Nov. 11th.

Kid’s Korner-Red Ribbon Week activities are being planned by SADD and True Sports is planning for their middle school and elementary activity day on Thursday, Dec. 17th.

Key Communicators-Elementary fall sports have ended and basketball has started, Cross Roads has weekly activities going on, the Simla Library is sponsoring reading and writing events, including a drive in movie night and there is a silent auction going on now, the Double El Soil Conservation publication highlighted a number of our parents, employees, and Board member, Lori Ellefson, and Mrs. Townley and her p.e. class replaced trees in our shelter belt last spring.

Title I-There seems to be quite a bit of discussion on testing and changes that may occur with the new federal program, with the focus being a reduction on the amount of time used for testing as well as the high stakes involved. We will wait and see.

Attendance Rate-As a district our attendance rate for the first quarter was 97%. The elementary and middle school had a 97% plus rate and the high school was 96%. Our goal is 95%. Great job students and parents.

Safety Committee-Mr. Wilson and crew have attended 3 workshops focused on the review of our safety plan. We have been preparing for fire drills at a time of day when

we are outside of the regular classroom, in transition. We will have a school wide drill this week. Our next drill will be a Shelter In Place. After Mr. Wilson and his group complete the plan it will be shared with the Board and Accountability Committee before it is implemented.

Nutritional Committee-Attached.
